Tomorrow school begins. Technically that’s not true. School doesn’t start until Thursday but I return to work tomorrow. We will have meetings for two days, then new student orientation on Wednesday, then classes start on Thursday. It’s amusing to see the behind the scenes stuff. When I was in school I would get excited if school started on Thursday because then we would only have two days of school and then a weekend. Now I see that they really do this for the teachers. One school in the area is starting classes on Monday and the teachers are up in arms. One said if something goes wrong the first day you are stuck with them all week. At least if something goes wrong on Thursday, there is the weekend and then you can start again. Also, as a student I had no idea how important breaks were to the teachers. I tried to tell students last year that the teachers look forward to the breaks much more than the students do. No one believed me. Oh well, it’s absolutely true and now I see it.
So today I’ll spend getting ready for tomorrow. I need to make sure my clothes are pressed and ready – I’ve been living in shorts and t-shirts for the past 7 weeks. I need to wash my car – I’m proud to say I’ve used my car very little during this break. I live right in the heart of town and I did a lot of walking. I also need to clean house – nothing like coming home from work to a nice clean house. So I’ll be kind of busy today getting ready and tomorrow the fun stuff begins…..
